Stitch Method

With an otoplasty procedure, the type of method is decisive. Several different methods are available but none are as gentle and non-invasive as Dr. Merck’s. We were pleased to win Dr. Merck as a specialist for our clinic.

The Dr. Merck Stitch Method

CMO carries out ear-correction procedures with a new method developed by the German surgeon, Dr. Merck – the Dr. Merck Stitch Method.
CMO guarantees that the operations are exclusively carried out by Dr. Merck personally.

Dr. Merck is a specialist for ENT (Ears-Nose-Throat) and plastic surgery. For years, Dr. Merck has been exclusively carrying out his method.

With his worldwide new method, Dr. Merck has successfully operated over 6,000 ears – a number not yet achieved by any other surgeon..

While many surgeons and plastic surgery clinics offer the entire spectrum of operations including face-lifts, breast operations or liposuction with the correction of protruding ears as only a side-offer (and using the old method!), CMO exclusively offers otoplasty with the Stitch Method and by Dr. Merck personally. This ensures optimal operation results.

Unlike the traditional method, unfortunately still used by all other surgeons, the Dr. Merck Stitch Method is a closed, minimally-invasive method in which no incisions are made and no cartilage is exposed or reworked. The only wounds are small stitch points that heal after a few days. This is why CMO has engaged Dr. Merck.
The operation can be carried out at any age, with children we recommend the operation before the child enters school.
The Dr. Merck Stitch Method can be carried out for any ears, independently of form and size. Even ears with a very robust and thick cartilage can be successfully operated with the method.

The usual cause of protruding ears is an insufficiently formed inner ear fold, termed antihelix in medicine. Dr. Merck forms this fold using only threads and via a special technique. The threads are placed under the skin and are not visible. With this method, (and contrary to all other methods), no incisions are made on the ear, nothing is exposed. The method results in beautiful, natural-looking ears.
Unlike with the traditional method, there are no scars. A bandage is not necessary. Risks tied to the other methods (infection, haematomas, longer pain, cosmetically unattractive ridges and depressions, a rough surface and unnatural deformations of the conchal bowl) do not occur with this method.

Unique in the world is that the patient can determine the position of the ears.

There is no hospital stay. Patients are treated on an outpatient basis.
For children under 11, the procedure is carried out under full anaesthesia, as of the age of 12 the procedure is carried out, as with adults, in local anaesthesia.

Immediately after your operation, you can resume your vacation on Tenerife.

CMO summarises the advantages of the method as follows:

  • Optimal cosmetic result through a natural-looking antihelix fold
  • The patient determines the position of the ears
  • No head bandage
  • No incisions
  • No reworking and removal of cartilage
  • No scars
  • Minimal risk of infection
  • Large acceptance by the patient
  • Patient can enjoy the location after the operation
  • No hospital stay
